My name is Portia M. Cox, and I am proud to serve as the Director and Lead Consultant at Horizon Security. With over 28 years of experience in public and private security, I hold master’s degrees in Protection Management and Public Policy and have dedicated my life to the vital cause of public safety.
Having completed a distinguished career within the NYC Correctional Department, I’ve acquired invaluable experience in managing the operations of a detention center. I understand firsthand that safety and security are paramount. While we can’t predict every eventuality, a well-designed security system can be a crucial deterrent. A thorough security plan can provide a level of deterrence to you and bring peace of mind to those you hold dear. It’s common to think, “What are the odds?” but I firmly believe it’s always wiser to be prepared rather than regretful when trouble arises.

Our Story
Growing up in New York City during the 1980s, there was always a neighbor or two looking out for the block. Everyone seemed to know when a family was on vacation or working long hours, and a sense of safety permeated the neighborhood. Children played in the streets, and if they misbehaved, someone from the neighborhood would promptly take them home to their parents.
Today, however, there seems to be a disconnect, and community unity has shifted toward a more self-centered mentality. That's where we come in. We are here to help. Based on your specific needs, we will provide a comprehensive overview of your building's structure, identify its weak points, and offer alternatives for improvement.
We also work with families and small businesses to prepare emergency evacuation protocols. Additionally, we can assist your security personnel in enhancing their building patrols and search skills.
